Mayma Awaida - Creative Producer & Arts Manager
I am an artist, arts worker, and collaborator currently based on Whadjuk Noongar Bibulmun boodja. Considering how art and writing are embodied experiences, my work aims to elevate the lived experiences of individuals with disability disadvantage, and interrogate how to position accessibility within the art as an intentional, response-driven process, rather than as a mere adjunct.
As a first-generation Lebanese migrant, writing and art-making have been key practices through which I have been able to, and continue to, interrogate, reflect upon, and unpack the intersectional experiences of gender, belonging, culture, heritage, and power within a white Australian context. While this has served me at a deeply personal level, it has reiterated to me the need for art which is thoughtful, intimate, and inclusive.
